A beat up flea market cart feels at home at the Farm Chicks Show.
The Farm Chick show is quickly approaching, and I am reminded of how much fun the last one was. My friend Kal had always been a huge fan and introduced me to the Farm Chicks about a year ago. We made plans to attend their show at the Spokane Fairgrounds in Spokane, Washington. It is about a 3 ½ hour drive from our home in Yakima, Washington. On Friday we headed there to stay the night and be there first thing in the morning. Saturday greeted us with rain and as we pulled in the parking lot about 45 minutes early we were surprised there was hardly any line. Well, if that is the case, we decided we would hit Starbucks first and then brave the rain to stand in line. Big mistake after a 20-minute Starbuck run, we went back and faced a huge line with 25 minutes still to go. We got our umbrellas out and debated on getting our flea market carts out. It sounds like junior high, but we noticed no one else in line had one. Maybe this isn’t a flea market cart kind of show. Who knows maybe it is really fancy and expensive, we debated. Then after deciding to start a trend, we took one cart and headed out to stand in line. We immediately started to visit with the people in line with us, and they loved our cart and wished they had brought one. Well, maybe things are looking up. The line started to move right at 10:00 a.m. and at 10:20 we got in the building. The first thing we noticed was a wall of umbrellas. People just propped their umbrellas on a large store gate inside the entry to dry and trusted they would be there when they got back. The first booth was the Farm Chicks booth and it was awesome. After some digging, I put together this nesting set of cobalt blue and white enamelware. I have been collecting for three years and only found a couple pieces. I was thrilled to find so many in one place and so reasonable. Kal bought a necklace and some note pads from them also. We purchased them, stashed them in our cart, and kept on moving. The quality of booths and merchandise is what struck us next. It is one excellent show. Everything we looked at was so reasonable. It was so full we moved through pretty slow. When you are shoulder-to-shoulder barely moving, you get to know even strangers pretty quickly. We met our new friend Timi this way. She was debating between two flea market carts for sale and asked for our opinion, never being slow to an opinion, we quickly gave our vote. Turns out the minute she let go of the other, two other ladies grabbed it at the same time. We didn’t stick around to see how it turned out. We shopped till they closed and came back on Sunday. The next day we were shocked to see new items and booths that looked entirely different. Sunday was quieter, and we got to know some of the vendors. Every vendor we visited with was so nice and friendly. The whole experience was a fun one and one we can’t wait to do again. This time we will arrive early and stay in line, rain or shine. We also will proudly use our old beat up flea market cart because it is that kind of show.
